MEMS-based Security... cost effective... simple... secure
About Us

Veratag is a privately funded company formed to commercialize work done at Cornell University’s Craighead Research Group to develop micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) resonators which produce unique analog signals that can be used for identification, authentication and counterfeit prevention.

Veratag is located in Ithaca, New York and can be contacted at info@veratag.com

Veratag is a member of the RFID Security Alliance.

Veratag is on the UC Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center Industrial Advisory Board.

Veratag presented a technical paper describing our demonstration secure identification system at PowerMEMS2009 in Silver Spring, MD. Please contact us if you would like a reprint of the manuscript.

Veratag has been accepted to present a manuscript and talk at the SPIE 2010 Defense, Security+Sensing conference in Orlando, Florida. CEO Joshua Cross will present the manuscript; please contact us if you would like to meet in Orlando.

The management team includes:

Joshua Cross, Ph.D., CEO

Josh is a co-founder and CEO of Veratag, a provider of MEMS-based, biometric-like microchips for authentication applications. Before starting Veratag, he was a part of the Craighead Research Group and performed development work that helped create Veratag's technology platform.  He received a Ph.D. from Cornell University’s Applied Physics Department with expertise in micro and nano-fabrication and with a minor in Business. He has numerous scientific publications in the area of nanotechnology.

John Schneiter, Ph.D., Chairman

John is a co-founder of Veratag and currently serves as Chairman of Veratag. Prior to Veratag, he co-founded GlobalSpec in 1996 and served as President for ten years, raising over $20M from Warburg Pincus and helping to grow the company from a four person startup to a leader in the engineering information market. Under his leadership GlobalSpec was twice granted the "Model of Excellence Award" by InfoCommerce and was named in the "25 Companies to Watch" list by Cahners. Prior to GlobalSpec he spent a dozen years at the GE Corporate Research and Development Center where he was acting manager of the Control Systems Program. Dr. Schneiter is a board director of Veratag, GlobalSpec, and the Schenectady Museum and Suits-Bueche Planetarium. He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering with a minor in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds sixteen patents.
